Frequently asked questions

What's new in FY 2025-26 income tax slabs?

New regime FY 2025-26 offers: ₹0–4L (nil), 4–8L (5%), 8–12L (10%), 12–16L (15%), 16–20L (20%), 20–24L (25%), above 24L (30%). Standard deduction of ₹75,000 and rebate up to ₹12L taxable income (effectively zero tax). Confirm latest with your CA.

Should I choose new or old regime?

Generally: if your total deductions (80C + 80D + HRA + home loan + NPS) exceed ~₹3.5–4 lakh, old regime usually wins. Below that, new regime wins. Use this calculator to compare exactly — it shows both side-by-side.

Does this cover 80C, 80D, HRA, home loan?

Yes. Old regime calculation supports 80C (₹1.5L), 80D medical insurance (up to ₹75K), NPS 80CCD(1B) (₹50K), HRA exemption, home loan interest (24b, up to ₹2L). New regime only allows NPS 80CCD(2) and standard deduction.

Are cess and surcharge included?

Yes — 4% health + education cess is added on the calculated tax. Surcharge (10%/15%/25%/37%) applies automatically above ₹50L/₹1Cr/₹2Cr/₹5Cr in old regime (25% cap in new regime).

Is this calculator accurate for filing ITR?

It's accurate for estimation. For actual filing, always verify with a CA or the official IT portal — rules can change mid-year and edge cases (capital gains, business income) aren't covered here.
